Our priority: to provide you with accurate results quickly and efficiently, allowing you to make the right decision in a timely manner for the benefit of your patient.
Overview of activities
Histology, cytology, and frozen cuts are performed in the Pathology Lab.
Gynaecological cytology uses thin layer cytology (ThinPrep®, supplied by Hologic).
In order to further improve quality, we use ThinPrep® imaging technology, an automated system that assists in the primary screening of ThinPrep® thin-layer cytology samples.
Since April 2012, we have partnered with the MultiCyte ThinPrep Imaging Group of the pathology lab of Jan Yperman Hospital in Ypres to use this imaging technique.
Advantages of this technology:
- The computer selects the relevant fields in a standardized manner.
- The pathologist's attention is focused on the most relevant fields.
All samples are screened by the pathologists themselves.
The collaboration with the Jan Yperman hospital's Pathology Lab includes HPV typing (Roche Cobas), a molecular test for detection (high risk) HPV DNA in certain indications.
Immuno-histochemical and histochemical tests are performed by the Pathology Lab at OLV hospital Aalst and reviewed by the pathologists of AZ Jan Portaels.
