Since 2019, the Midden-Brabant GPs station has been located in the diabetes clinic of AZ Jan Portaels Hospital in Vilvoorde. Residents of Vilvoorde, Strombeek-Bever, Machelen, Steenokkerzeel, Kampenhout and the Greater Zaventem area can go there during weekends and holidays to get medical assistance that cannot be postponed until their GP is available.
For the foreseeable future, the on-call duty system will start at 6 PM on Friday nights (and the night before a holiday) instead of at 7 PM. Given the overlap with the opening hours of the diabetes clinic, an alternative location had to be found. The infrastructure works planned by the hospital within the new location of the emergency department presented an opportunity. And so, as of Friday, 30 July 2021, the GPs station will become the ER's new neighbour. As soon as the works on the emergency department are completed, an official inauguration will be organized.
This move offers new opportunities for all parties to further optimize operations, expand contacts between the physicians and staff of the emergency department and the GPs station, leading to a greater focus.
