The Flemish Institute for Quality of Care (VIKZ), competent for the development of indicators for General Hospitals and Mental Health Care institutions, has launched a call for participation in a pilot measurement for a new future indicator "palliative care". The AZ Jan Portaels has agreed to take part in several VIKZ indicators. This commitment provides us with an opportunity to gain insight into our quality of care (as an individual hospital, but also as part of a benchmark). As of this week, our patients who have been admitted for palliative care, at the "De Cirkel" Nursing Unit or are followed up by the Palliative Support Team on the geriatrics or medicine nursing wards, are surveyed about the quality of their care. At the De Cirkel nursing unit, volunteers and nurses will survey the patients. For the other wards, the psychologists of the Palliative Support Team have committed to performing the survey. In addition to the patient, the family is also surveyed four weeks after the death. The family will receive a personal e-mail containing a link to the survey. Finally, a hospital employee involved in the support and care of the patient will also complete a questionnaire at two separate times.
The results of this survey are expected by the end of 2022 and will be available on the Quality section of this website.
